Now although they’ve likely hinted at this with the whole airport scene (at the airport gate…) I think this is still something that has yet to come. This is likely code for the epic climax of the last episode.

After making this post… I think I’ve finally figured out the whole code… and I do think it’s about Will and Mike (and Lover’s Lake).

“The week is long”

Obviously this is related to emotions slowing down time. This likely means more miscommunication… more hurt feelings and more separation. (Separation being implied in the songs here).

“The silver cat feeds”

Silver cat likely being the Lynx (as we see multiple references to it). See the “Lynx” in the background of the photo above? It’s the name of a transportation/shipping company. The silver cat is obviously a portal/gate!

“Lynx teaches manipulation of time and space in otherworlds.” X (The association with space-time manipulation and feeding could imply a black hole/wormhole (or watergate itself)… this could be the “giant creature with a gapping mouth”).

Remember… they alluded to this when Will and Mike met at the airport gate, with the large “snack” sign (“snack-sized gate”). (Meeting at a gate AND water/the ocean is mentioned in the songs here). AND because it’s called a “snack size” it’s connected with FEEDING!!! The silver cat FEEDS on this snack.

It is also possible they created their own separate gate/portal (in the rear? 🫣) with their strong sexual energy/electromagnetic field.

It’s also worth noting that the Lynx is also associated with secrets, lies, and hidden truths. X

“when blue meets yellow in the west”

Now. Assuming that blue = Mike and yellow = Will… (which is also referenced in the songs here! “Blue” and “sunshine”)

what west are we speaking of? California? Yes it is west but no.

But, bare with me here. There is one spot that Dustin kindly informs us that is west of Skull Rock. Lover’s Lake.

They were at Lover’s Lake then went east towards Skull Rock… thus… Lover’s Lake is west relative to that spot.

ALSO, “west” might be a reference to “West Germany”. The song Heroes (commonly associated with Byler) tells the tale of lovers from West and East Germany separated by the Berlin Wall. Like how Mike and Will are separated by the gate between the right side up and the upside down. The west side being the wealthy side (right side up) and the east likely being the UD. The screenshot above is proof of the connection between Berlin/the Berlin Wall and Lover’s Lake/“watergate”.

China = the upside-down. You know the saying “are you digging to China?”, implying that China is on the opposite side/upside-down from you.

AND we have an association here with Lover’s Lake/“watergate” and China…

Why would a trip to the UD sound nice? Well it may if they go there and “tread lightly”.

Recall the “Kaufman Shoes” Robin associated with to “tread lightly”? Well… there’s a movie called “Man on the Moon” about a man named Andy Kaufman. Hmm… makes me think of the famous line “one small step for man… one giant leap for mankind.” One small step would be treading lightly after all… Could this be a possible hint to the boys arriving to a new world?

Now, they’d also need to “tread lightly” when it comes to finally expressing their feelings.

Let’s see what Joyce and Hopper have to say about that:

To sum it all up:

1. Will and Mike are separated (making the week long). Now, I think “blue”/Mike is in the UD or “East”.

2. Mike returns to the right side up/“West Germany”/the WEST and reunites with Will at Lover’s Lake.

3. When reunited, either a new gate is formed or the current gate is altered by their strong electromagnetic field and they fall into it together. (They are the “SNACK” of the silver cat that feeds/giant creature with the gapping mouth/the gate!!!!)

4. Together, they create a new environment… one that is safe for them to share their feelings.

So I've just made a superhero AU for utmv. Right? Well, I really only wanted to design one guy, Lust. Sooo I'm opening the AU (WHICH LITERALLY HAS NO LORE YET SO NO WORRIES) for others to partake in!

Ok, so like, long story short, our professor assigned us to make a short survey about anything related to technology and stuff like that. I figured i'd make something related to AI art, bc yknow, at least I'd be somewhat interested in the topic.

And btw, I like to say our prof is a nice guy, reeeally, but he's also, VERY pro AI, for anything. Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and their friends - My redraw and style - My gift for my friend - Merry Late Christmas and Happy Late New Year - Happy holidays - Happy 25th Anniversary of Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas - Mouseverse, Duckverse and Goofyverse - Classic Disney

The holidays are over, but I still can't say goodbye to the Christmas holidays without doing one very important detail, and that was the 25th anniversary of one of my favorite Christmas specials, Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas, which celebrated its 25th anniversary at the end of last year, so happy 25th anniversary!

Yes, I drew Mickey Mouse with Minnie Mouse and their friends with their family members from the classic Disney, but in my own way, I redraw it from the final scene of that Christmas movie, adding certain characters without whom it wouldn't be the classic Disney we know it. Otherwise, that movie consists of three parts. The first part is called “Stuck on Christmas” (that story was inspired from “Christmas Every Day” by William Dean Howells from 1892) and it is about how Donald's nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie who wanted every day to be Christmas to get more presents until they realized that Christmas is not so much about the presents, as about the love in their family and then gave their uncle and aunt the best presents as well as the devoted grand-uncle Scrooge and Aunt Gertie. The second part refers to “A Very Goofy Christmas” and it is about the relationship between Goofy and his son Max. Goofy's neighbor Pete told Max that Santa Claus does not exist, so Goofy tried to convince his son that what Pete was saying was not true until he made the situation worse when he revealed that Santa Claus was in front of his son. However, Max, although disappointed, was sad for his father and tried to convince himself that he was Santa Claus, in the end they stopped a Beagle Boy and then Goofy realized that the greatest gift he had was his son and in the end they really saw the real Santa Claus. The third part "Mickey and Minnie's Gift of the Magi" (referring to the story "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry (William Sydney Porter) from 1905) is about Mickey and Minnie and what to give each other. Mickey wanted to buy a gold chain, but he didn't have the money so he sold his own harmonica for it, and Minnie accidentally bought an harmonica for Mickey, however they realized that it's not all about the gifts as much as it is about loving each other. In the end it ends when everyone gets together and sings the songs "Jingle Bells", "Deck the Halls", and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas". Certainly, in my opinion, a very dear and excellent movie, definitely much better than "Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas". I forgot to mention that this movie was first shown on November 9, 1999.

Unlike the original ending of the film, I drew something similar, but in my own way, by adding a few characters that would make up a classic Disney with their loving couples and their children and friends. In addition to Mickey and Minnie Mouse, there are Donald and Daisy Duck, Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck, Goofy and his son Max Goof, Pluto the dog, Figaro the cat (Pluto is Mickey's pet, and Figaro is Minnie's pet), Chip and Dale the Chipmunk (they are more like brothers in my headcanon), Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow (they had cameo appearances in that movie and were together), Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Ortensia the Cat (I drew them as I usually like them, and they were a great couple in the Epic Mickey video game), Scrooge McDuck and Ludwig von Drake (Donald's uncles) and Panchito Pistoles and José Carioca (Donald's best friends and who together make up the Three Caballeros). Yes, unlike certain scenes and official drawings from Disney employees, I drew Huey playing the guitar, Dewey playing a regular drum kit with a bell, and Louie playing cymbals. I love Sun X Moon, this is a piece dedicated to that. Look at them be wholesome and cute! Also, yes, I adore The Sun and Moon Show and I would say I’m a big fan, but Sun X Moon. So just everyone is aware, when I make this ship it is NOT Sun and Moon Show related, and I will make that bluntly clear. They are *brothers* in the show, so that would be gross. This is a God AU of mine based, mostly, on EPIC : The Musical. In this AU, Sun and Moon are not brothers, but instead romantic partners. Also, I was kinda of inspired by the song "The Moon Will Sing" by The Crane Wives for a lot of their dynamic. If you know that song, then you should be able to tell that these two are wholesome little husbands who absolutely adore each other. I definitely want to actually make stuff for this AU when I have fleshed out the story more. (My God AU) ⬆️

Thank you for writing up that post about the engagement of the alleged themes in campaign 3. I've seen the argument for them and honestly that plus some of the C3 stuff has almost made me feel weird playing a cleric in this setting. The implications just are so unfortunate if it really is the angle they're going for?

So I have two thoughts on this. The first is that like...it's actually really difficult to make a story set in a fantasy world that deals with racism and colonialism because you have to develop fantasy racism and colonialism, which is a really fucking unpleasant headspace to exist in! And then, if you do, you have what I alluded to in tags on a different post today, where you will get people up in arms about how D&D or an actual play show or a fantasy work depicts orcs or goblins as racist or antisemitic stereotypes and then it's crickets when it comes to any real-world support of black or Jewish people. Chuck Klosterman said sci fi is philosophy for stupid people, and I disagree, but I do think speculative fiction is frequently sociology, anthropology, and geopolitics for stupid people, particularly if it's a setting with a lot of magic and fantasy races vs say, works like Butler's Patternist series, or a lot of Latin American magical realism, or (girl who just finished Disco Elysium voice) Disco Elysium, where there's a lot more grounding in our reality. I think this post covers the concept of real vs mythic, and I think the Critical Role stuff with the gods is in the realm of the mythic and people are trying to force it into a very human narrative. And yeah, the implications are really unfortunate if you do.

I think it's worth noting that a lot of high-profile (and beloved) TTRPG/AP projects from actual people from colonized cultures imagine a world in which they were never colonized (I am far from an expert but just off the top of my head: Coyote and Crow; Into the Motherlands; Desiquest; Islands of Sina Una) rather than make a story where a bunch of mostly white characters explain how they are the victims of colonization from two separate sources and only really focus on the one that's way less obvious and true but don't worry they're GONNA FIX IT, maybe, idk, should we open this door? I just don't know! golly gee this is tough!

The second related thought is just that D&D isn't a game that is well-suited to dismantling complex political structures either on a narrative or literal level and also it's pretend so you can do what you want forever. I mean don't call other people slurs while playing it but if we're talking in-world? I genuinely think that people who are unabashed murderhobos in D&D are often perfectly fine, generous, and lovely people in real life, and a lot of people who are like "I unionized the goblins! We're playing non-combat D&D! I de-escalate every situation" are often the sort of person to claim it's ableist to suggest that perhaps you should try to use reusable shopping bags. Like, are you living your values in your real life and capable of critical thought? then who cares if your D&D character is kind of a dick, or the show you are watching doesn't align perfectly with what you believe? And I find people who get overly hung up on how good and virtuous they are for their media consumption tend to be compensating for a lack, or at best a deep insecurity, about how they comport themselves in their real life.

so anyway yeah if the cast actually is like "yes i see this as a decolonialist work" I am going to have Thoughts and Pretty Harsh Critiques but to grant the CR cast the benefit of the doubt here, I think it's just...a mythic, epic scale story that draws from interesting sources (creation myths, the idea of a world created as an envious reflection by a sealed hunger) and didn't come together very well. I cannot extend that same benefit of the doubt to those fans who have argued otherwise, however.

It's all just people trying to push feminism where it wasn't 🙃 Yes, it's true ancient Greece was kinda shitty towards women. But goddamn that was 3000 years ago. We can enjoy these stories but it's important to not push modern perspectives and view points on these stories while also not condoning these actions. Not to mention we may very well experience this kind of thing with future generations that will come after us so it's important to simply stay humble. Civilizations and humans are constantly evolving and viewpoints are constantly changing so it's not exactly fair to history nor ourselves to take these ancient ideologies to heart. Grow up.

Anyways Circe/Kirke is not your hot little witch cutie 🥰 She's a goddess and the daughter of the Sun Titan. She's done terrible things and that's what makes her iconic. Istg if she wasn't so infamous no one would even know about her. She's morally gray and that's what makes her so neat >:D Now, is it unforgivable to paint jer in a good light? If anyone wants to learn more about Kirke's original/actual character, I don't really recommend most modern interpretations- (MM's novel, Hades 2, DC, Odyssey Movies, my bbg Epic the Musical etc...) I'd say just read the Odyssey, reasurch some older mythos and read the Argonautica.

Can you still like these interpretations of Kirke? Yes. Of course. I love Epic's Kirke even though she is pretty inaccurate. You just have to acknowledge they aren't the real thing! :D That happeneds with most characters ngl, no adaptation nor interpretation is going to be 100% accurate to the original, but with Kirke it's always so... Apparent? So visible. They never make her at LEAST 50% accurate. Which 🤬

She was not a victim, she wasn't incredibly horny, she wasn't a girlboss, she wasn't love sick for Odysseus (it's hinted she only found him to be an 'interesting mortal' of sorts) she wasn't 100% cartoon villain of the week either. She's MORALLY GRAY 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️

She holds Odysseus' men hostage, she turns Scylla into a monster out of jealousy, she turns a man into a woodpecker because he didn't want to sleep with her. But she ALSO helps out Medea and Jason (even though it's because Medea was her neice but STILL) and she gives Odysseus instructions on how to head home.

She does BAD things that shouldn't be forgiven and aren't at all justified, but she also does GOOD things that should be acknowledged. She's a goddess. She's a character. She's morally gray. WHAT THE FUCK IS NOT CLICKING???? 😀

I just don't like modern interpretations of Kirke and I'm a meanie so I made this ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

That's why I stick to my 3000 year old books instead of these puny ones that were written in my century 💪💪💪

actually no wait holdup, I stumbled across some "Na'vi redesigns" recently, and while I don't want to make a stink about it on the actual redesign posts themselves because I don't want to antagonize the artists, who are clearly skilled in their own right, I do have something to say on the topic. While there is of course nothing wrong with re-designing characters or species for fun, there seems to be this condescending attitude surrounding Na'vi redesigns in particular, especially ones that make them significantly more monstrous/non-human, about how they're "better" than the canon designs for being less humanoid but....

y'all. Though there is a lot of cool speculative biology in Avatar, Avatar at is heart is not meant to be a speculative biology documentary, it's meant to be a story.

y’know, it’s interesting, there’s a section in Anomaly Inc’s epic eight-hour Avatar defense in which he’s refuting The Critical Drinker’s Avatar video. Paraphrasing a bit because I don’t want to dig through eight hours for this one line, but there’s a point where Critical Drinker says “if the Na'vi looked like this, or this, or this [showing images of much more monstrous alien designs from other movies], Avatar would be a very different movie”, and Anomaly Inc responds, “no actually, if the Na'vi looked like xenomorphs nothing in the plot would change, it would just be a whole lot less pleasant to look at.”

And you know what? They’re both right. Anomaly Inc is correct that giving the Na'vi a more monstrous design would not affect the plot itself, but Critical Drinker is also right (though perhaps not in the way he intended) that it would make Avatar a different movie. A WORSE MOVIE.

Yeah, I said it. Because plot is an important element to a movie, yes, but it’s not the only important element. Film is a visual medium, and therefore design is very important too, and it’s not arbitrary: the design of your characters should be used to support the story you’re trying to tell.

The story of Avatar requires the audience to empathize with the Na'vi. We’re supposed to be able to relate to them, to see ourselves in them. We’re meant not to see them as just “aliens”, but as people, because recognizing them as people emphasizes the wrongness of the RDA’s treatment of them. Blowing up the village of a clearly humanoid species is going to hit the audience much harder than blowing up the nest of scary-looking aliens, even if we know the aliens are smart and have their own culture etc. (not to say that blowing up the “nest” wouldn’t still be bad, of course it would be, it just wouldn’t invoke quite the same gut reaction in the viewers and yes that matters in a story).

A more monstrous design would not only not support the Na'vi’s narrative role, it would actively hinder it. Like it or not, general audiences would have a much more difficult time connecting with the Na'vi if they were depicted as hunched-over four-eyed hexapods with gaping jaws and the inability to make human facial expressions. Making them more humanoid makes them much easier to read and therefore to emotionally connect to. And no, Mr. Drinker, making your protagonists appealing to look at is not “lazy dirty manipulation”, it’s character design 101.

And don’t get me wrong, there’s certainly a place for more monstrous-looking sapient alien species in fiction! And if that’s your cup of tea by all means go nuts! Make that alien species! Flesh out their culture! That sounds awesome! I know I’ve definitely seen some cool and interesting ones out there!

….but I just don’t think that Avatar is that place. And that’s ok. There’s a place for “monstrous” aliens (sapient or otherwise), but there’s a place for humanoid aliens too, Avatar is the latter and there’s nothing wrong with that.

…all that to say, my stance on Na'vi redesigns is heavily dependent on the attitude behind them:

“Here’s a Na'vi redesign because I thought it would be a fun challenge and look cool!” Awesome, go for it, have fun! :D

“Here’s a Na'vi redesign because the canon designs are dumb and lazy and mine is way Better and More Original because it looks more like a movie monster, the filmmakers were so stupid for not making them look more like this, I’m just Fixing It” shut up

If the themes from the games exist in Sonic's world for real, the second Aurora discovered "All Hail Shadow" not only would that song would be blasting NONSTOP because internally she's like "Hell yeah that's my beau" but she would ABSO-LUTELY tease Shadow about it. I just adore this scenario you've described! You totally get the fun energy that I try to build between the two (in addition to the more sappier, romantic stuff). This made me smile!

E: Aw! I had never heard this song before you told me about it. I agree, I think it fits them very well! Aurora is very much an optimist and so she has a very different way of seeing the world than Shadow originally did. Thank you for sending that to me!

I definitely get why people want more screen time with the crew and individual crew members (Perimedes, for example), but I actually kind of like the fact that we don’t know very many of them and we don’t hear any of them by name except Polites and Eurylochus.

(This can be seen as a continuation of this post where I talk about Odysseus seeing himself as above man and, therefore, above his crew.)

I have my own personal headcanon that Odysseus knows each of his men personally and by name, even those not on his specific ship, but I do think that having them as this unknown, unnamed blob of a force reenforces the me vs them conflict that Odysseus has.

Eurylochus is the voice of the crew and it makes sense that the crew wouldn’t bother Odysseus directly with things. He’s busy and it’s Eurylochus’ job to handle the unimportant stuff. But it means that Odysseus is separated from his men in more ways than one. He’s of royal blood (while most, if not all, of his men are not), he’s a war hero that will forever be remembered (while his men will forever be the vague title of ‘Odysseus’ crew’— iirc, this is actually why they open the windbag in the Odyssey, because they don’t think it’s fair that he gets the glory AND riches), and he’s the captain (while the rest of them have to follow his every order even when he refuses to listen to anyone but himself). He is inherently detached and singled out from the rest of the crew that are considered, both by the narrative and by the meta-ness of how EPIC is written, to be one singular entity.

“You relied on wit and then we died on it.”

The crew could’ve said “they died on it”, obviously pointing to Scylla’s victims and maybe even references those who died to Poseidon, but they wouldn’t because they are connected in a way that Odysseus does not relate to. This is, personally, also why I think that Odysseus is wrong when he says that Eurylochus would’ve done the same thing he did. People like to point to Circe’s island to say that Eury would’ve, but I disagree. Circe’s island is something entirely different and context matters here.

Eurylochus would’ve NEVER intentionally sacrificed anyone to get back home. To him, it’s better to have died together— which does add an interesting layer to him hurting Helios’ cattle. If Zeus had posed his ultimatum to Eurylochus instead of Odysseus, Eury would’ve picked himself to die every single time regardless of his own guilt or fault in the situation. And, to be honest, I think a lot of the crew would’ve too. These are selfish men, yes, but they are also men who would rather die of honor as brothers than disgrace themselves, especially because they’d know that getting home alone would be basically impossible anyways.

I bring this up because it’s yet another showing of how Odysseus is set apart from the others. “If you want all the power, you must carry all the blame” isn’t Eurylochus attempting to deflect from what he’s done with the windbag— he already thought Odysseus forgave him/moved on from that. He is specifically commenting on the fact that Odysseus made this decision without consulting any of them— something that Eurylochus didn’t do, with the windbag or on Circe’s island, and would never do because, again, the crew stands as a collective and they, along with the narrative, views each other as extensions of themselves.

The crew is so betrayed by what Odysseus did because they consider themselves to be a family, warriors in arms that will die for each other, and since going to the Underworld, Odysseus just doesn’t understand it. I sincerely believe that, had Odysseus told them and laid out the situation they were in, there would have been six men willing to volunteer themselves if there was truly no other way. Hell, Eurylochus might’ve even been one of them just to get as many of his friends home as possible.

I think that Odysseus is fundamentally different in how he views himself vs the crew and ‘Monster’ put the final nail in the coffin. I doubt it was intentional or anything more than the unfortunate reality that Jorge just didn’t have time or space for more content about the crew, but I think reducing them to a collective that stands behind Eurylochus from Odysseus’ perspective really works. In the early stages of the show, it highlights the foreshadowing within ‘Luck Runs Out’ and, as the show goes on, it really shows how Odysseus refuses to stand with them.

I particularly like that Mutiny’s blocking directions say that Eurylochus looks around at the gore while Odysseus keeps his back to it and the crew. I imagine a lot of scenes where Odysseus’ back can face Eury/the crew and it being symbolic of this dynamic— when the crew is distrustful in ‘Keep Your Friends Close’, when Eury is trying to admit that he opened the windbag in ‘Puppeteer’ and when he actually admits it in ‘Scylla’, when Eury is trying to convince Odysseus not to fight Circe, when he orders them to kill the sirens, when Zeus strikes them all down, ect.

Anyways, I don’t have any real way to end this. I do totally get people wishing there was more an emotional impact on the death of the crew for the audience, but I don’t really think it’s all that necessary and I like the implications that come from demoting the crew into being a singular ensemble entity.
